WorkCover NSW has announced it will conduct a free webinar to help businesses and workers prevent small falls in the workplace.

WorkCover’s Work Health and Safety General Manager, John Watson, said falls on the same level were one of the most common workplace injury, and that the it represents a significant cost to the state’s economy.

“During 2010/11 there were 14,720 claims for slips, trips and falls on the same level at a cost of more than $117 million to the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme,” Mr Watson said.

“The average cost of these claims was $7,965 demonstrating how big an impact a slip, trip or fall on the same level can have.”

“The webinar will look at the requirements for managing falls on the same level in the workplace as well as work health and safety responsibilities, and how to identify and control risks.

“The webinar provides the opportunity for business and workers to ask questions and get advice from work health and safety experts in real-time.”

The webinar forms part of WorkCover’s Focus on Industry program, which focuses on the 10 highest risk industries in NSW, as well as the five most common injuries and illnesses within these  industries.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, 27 September from 11am – 12pm.
