Safety Lead

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Safety Lead to join our Operations Team. Reporting to the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager the Safety Lead’s purpose is to drive a ‘Safety First’ culture through leadership, coaching, accountability and development of safety and health initiatives.

The role will provide advice, service, development and support to the site and business leadership teams. In conjunction with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager and Site Lead, you will design and implement safety initiatives within Bulla.

This role will oversee our Frozen operations in Colac, Victoria.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure Bulla is a Safe workplace by promoting a safety-first culture
  • Provide advice and support to build line manager safety competence
  • Provide expert health, safety and well being advice and technical support to line management
  • Understanding and interpret legislative compliance to OHS principles
  • Engage with internal and external business partners to enable and drive health, safety and well being
  • Drive safety on site with the delivery and understanding of toolbox meetings and safety alerts
  • Delivering Bulla health and safety training programs
  • Assist and co-ordinate investigation of any issues identified as a result of audits and day-to-day operational activities
  • Ensure chemicals have been risk assessed and updated in Chem-watch
  • Actively involved in all site New Project Development (NPD) projects, site construction and introduction of new plant and processes
  • Conduct post incident, reasonable suspicion and random Drug and Alcohol testing a required
  • Assist the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager and Site Lead in developing an OHS strategic plan with key objectives and time frames for implementation
  • Develop and review Bulla Safety documentation in accordance with legislative and business requirements
  • Partner with Injury Management and Return to Work Manager to manage OHS systems to ensure compliance to legislative and company requirements
  • Maintain, update and manage emergency response plans and evacuation procedures
  • Assist and promote hazard identification and identify risk control measures to minimise injury and property damage
  • Ensure all incidents investigations are conducted and documented in a timely manner

You will have:

  • 2+ years in a similar role
  • FMCG and Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Diploma in WHS, Injury Management, or similar preferred
  • Thorough understanding of Victorian OHS and Workers Compensation legislation and regulations
  • Highly proactive, well developed project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • Strong motivational skills with the capacity to positively influence people and to initiate and deliver change independently or through teamwork
  • Ability to prepare detailed and practical reports and plans
  • High level of competency in computer-based communication and information management tools and database systems
