About This Opportunity

Supporting our Faculty and its School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work School of Dentistry, and Research Centres, we are searching for a WHS Coordinator to support the implementation of the WHS Management plan, assist School staff meet their WHS obligations, and promote a positive safety culture. You will work with the Schools to engage staff to further build a positive health safety and wellness culture.

Want to know a little more about your day to day? It will include, but isn't limited to:

  • Ensuring compliance with both statutory requirements and organisational objectives, including developing and monitoring management plans and risk registers.
  • Ensuring all WHS documentation is up to date for auditing requirements, and participating in audits as required.
  • Overseeing reporting, investigations, and trends across local area incidents, illnesses, injuries, and hazards.
  • Conducting risk assessments and reviewing local procedures to identify gaps in compliance and recommendations for change.
  • Facilitating School WHS committee meetings.
  • Overseeing the drug and chemical purchasing and disposal for the School of Dentistry. 
  • Ensuring Emergency Evacuation Procedure Manuals are maintained for all locations.

This position will be required to work across multiple locations, including but not limited to our St Lucia campus, our Herston campus, the Mater Hospital (Whitty Building) in South Brisbane. Some travel to rural sites may be required on an infrequent basis.

To comply with Queensland Health requirements, it is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

Our Ideal Candidate

The Schools you will be supporting are complex, encompassing teaching, clinical, and research environments. As such, we are ideally searching for someone with WHS knowledge or experience in a clinical (or similar) setting, so you can hit the ground running. This experience should be partnered with knowledge of WHS Safety Codes of Practice and Australian Standards.

Above all else, we are searching for someone who can prioritise their work over multiple locations, be adaptable to changing demands, and has a strong focus in supporting our Schools across all their WHS requirements.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW level 6. The base salary will be in the range $77,400.25 - $83,267. With super of up to 17%, the total package will be in the range $90,558 - $97,422, so you can start saving for your future.
