App ahead of annual safety drive
Safe Work Australia has put out a smartphone app to keep workers on top of events in Safety Month this October.
Safety Month is designed to renew the focus on health and safety in workplaces each year, while making progressive and lasting improvements to keep people safe.
"This year's theme Work safe. Home safe is a reminder that the most important reason for staying healthy and safe at work is not at work at all - and we all want to return safely home to our friends, family and loved ones," Safe Work Australia’s acting chief executive Michelle Baxter said.
“One of the ways you can get involved in Safety Month is by attending one of the events hosted by the work health and safety authorities, industry groups and unions or by participating in Safe Work Australia's own online events as part of the Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series (VSS),” she said.
The VSS is an online event run to showcase the newest ideas, innovation and research in work health and safety from business leaders, regulators, experts and academics.
It is one of many events that can be scheduled and remembered by the handy Safety Month app.
“The safety month app contains the details of these events and is a great way to quickly search for something in your area. It also allows you to watch or take part in the VSS from your mobile device,” Ms Baxter said.
Other key features of the app include a statistics section - which gives bite-sized statistics, and a fact-or-fiction feature.
“Other ways to get involved in safety month include raising the profile of your workplace's health and safety by becoming a Safety Ambassador - which you can do through the app - or by entering your organisation in the inaugural Workplace Participation Reward,” Ms Baxter said.
The app is accessible from iTunes or Google Play.
