Bus drivers' body wants better health boost
The Queensland Bus Industry Council (QBIC) wants to help the state’s drivers shape-up, launching a plan to improve the health of workers in a high-risk arena.
QBIC has linked with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland for an initiative in the Queensland Workplaces for Wellness push.
The healthy project is the result of the risks Executive Director of QBIC David Tape says run throughout the bus industry.
Mr Tape says the council wants the “Get on Board” project to help health through management support. The scheme will see healthy workplace initiatives rolled-out, including identifying workplace champions to mentor workers and facilitate special events.
Get on Board will help drivers and other workers fulfil personal health goals such as giving up smoking, improving diet or losing weight.
The Queensland-based initiative is part of a nation-wide push in the National Partnership Agreement on Preventive Health.
The Get on Board project has been funded by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s High-Risk Industry Work Health Funding Program grant.
