Gold mine halted after injury
A worker has been seriously injured in an accident at an underground gold mine in Western Australia.
Gold miner Saracen Mineral Holdings shas issued a statement saying it appears that the underground worker fell from a height while working at the Dervish mine, and an investigation has been launched.
The incident occurred around 1:45 am. The condition of the worker is unclear.
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) acting director mines safety, Graham James, has confirmed that inspectors have arrived on-site to start the department's investigation.
Saracen has suspended operations at Carosue Dam and placed its shares in a trading halt.
