Heavy mass truck maps chart the path to improvement
New maps should help truck drivers move faster and more safely through New South Wales.
Roads Minister Duncan Gay spoke about the cartographic boost to truck operators' safety and efficiency at a NatRoad NSW Regional Trucking Forum over the weekend.
He says a set of interactive maps will show approved routes for high mass limit heavy vehicles, allowing drivers to better plan and arrange their journeys.
"These industry tools would make journeys safer and more efficient," Mr Gay said.
"The interactive maps provide a great tool to ensure they [operators] are using the right roads so they don't end up damaging infrastructure."
The forum was focussed on topics such as safety, higher productivity and better road access for trucks, Truck Safe national manager Justin Fleming saying the high turnout proves the industry is serious about these issues.
Mr Fleming said it is; "really important for the whole community to support the transport industry and understand how vital it was for regional NSW and Australia."
"And having higher productivity vehicles would deliver less trucks on the road,” he said.
New South Wales roads are traversed by 420,000 trucks each day.
It is currently unclear when the reported maps will be made available. This page will be updated with a URL when it has been announced.
