Quad safety input sought
The Tasmanian Government is seeking input on a quad bike safety review.
Quad bikes are one of the most dangerous vehicles in Australia, claiming twenty-eight lives nationwide since January 2015 and ranking as the leading cause of death on farms in Australia.
The risks posed by quad bikes are not confined to farm workers, with approximately half of fatalities being individuals outside a work setting. Tragically, one in five people killed on quad bikes in Australia are children.
The review launched by the Tasmanian Government identifies the following key areas for potential action to improve quad bike safety in Tasmania;
- Increasing rider awareness of risks
- Improving rider skills
- Greater rider protection
- Government-led action
Submissions seeking to be treated as confidential can be marked as ‘confidential’.
Public input will inform the development of a new statewide quad bike safety plan.
