Wearable tech for OHS advance
A Melbourne-based medical device company has signed a contract with Crown Resorts, which will see devices attached to workers to gather data for OHS purposes.
Australian firm dorsaVi will attach its ViSafe units to casino workers as part of a dedicated occupational health and safety (OHS) database and job analysis library.
The data will allow Crown to identify which areas of work bring the highest risk of injury, so that it can target safety management to improve the working environment, reduce costs and boost safe work practices.
ViSafe devices include wearable technology, sensors and a mobile app to track and analyse the movement of workers.
The sensors are of a similar size to a USB thumbdrive, and can be attached to any part of a person’s body to objectively measure human movement.
Experts can then assess the level of risk associated with that movement and turn it into useful data.
The new Crown Resorts deal is the medical device company’s largest commercial project to date, and will be implemented over 18 months.
In coming years, the companies say the program may also be implemented at a new Sydney site.
