Excellence in the field of workplace health and safety has been acknowledged on the national scale once again, with the winners of this years 8th annual Safe Work Australia Awards named at a gala ceremony at the Old Parliament House earlier this week.

All in all, 29 finalists from Australia competed for this year’s awards, with five companies taking home the top award across the separate fields.

Engineering and infrastructure specialist Origin Alliance took home the Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System for their dedication to the cause with the delivery of the major Ipswich Motorway Upgrade.

Industrial cleaner, Agi-Kleen, was awarded Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue for their work in developing faster, safer and more cost effective methods of cleaning and maintaining concrete agitator bowls.

For their work in reducing staff exposure to risks while working on electrical shovel dipper handles, Zemek Engineer was declared joint winner of the Best Workplace Health andSafety Practice in a Small Business with Temtrol Technologies, who took home the award for their OHS training and information sharing network.

Harold Roeding was this year’s Best Individual Contribution to Workplace Health and Safety by an employee for his work as Health and Safety Representative for the Mornington designated work group for the past seven years.

Paul Gear took home the Best Individual Contribution to Workplace Health and Safety by a Work Health and Safety Manager for his tireless work in building a cultural change and implementing new safety systems at Gold Coast Water.
