Workplace lethality quantified
Stats have been released for workplace deaths and injuries in February of this year.
The latest Notifiable Fatalities Monthly report has revealed 16 work-related deaths during the period, of those deaths 2 workers and 1 bystander were killed from public road incidents.
The report lists fatalities in a number of categories; February contained three deaths from ‘Vehicle incident-public road crash’ and being ‘Hit by a falling object’. Two deaths involved a ‘Vehicle incident-not on a public road’, ‘Fall from a height’ and ‘Electrocution’. One fatality each involved ‘Pedestrian hit by vehicle-public road’, ‘Pedestrian hit by vehicle-not on a public road’, ‘Crushing’ and being ‘Hit by moving object other than vehicle’.
There appears to be danger inherent in many workplaces; the report shows four fatalities at construction workplaces, three at agriculture, forestry & fishing workplaces, two fatalities each occurred at transport, postal & warehousing sites, manufacturing, public administration & safety, rental & real estate. There was also one death at an arts & recreation services workplace.
