WorkSafe Tasmania has announced the winners of the 2012 WorkSafe Awards, recongnising businesses, organisations and individuals for their outstanding contributions to workplace safety throughout the state.

 

Engineering firm Pitt & Sherry together with Grange Resources took home the overall award for their work in reducing the hazards associated with open cut mining by developing a remote explosive loading unit.

 

North Eastern Soldiers Memorial Hospital took out the Overall Highly Commended Award for their services to the local community, with initiatives such as regular healthy staff morning teas, bike racks, water stations, pedometers, provision of 15 minutes each day for staff to go for a walk, flexible rosters, an employee assistance program, as well as an annual staff immunisation program.
