WorkSafe ups ante in wall collapse case
WorkSafe Victoria has announced it is continuing with investigations into the collapse of a wall in Melbourne that led to the tragic deaths of three pedestrians at the construction site in the city’s north.
Currently, the investigation is focussing on determining whether any offences under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 were committed.
But the agency has called for calm in the approach, saying that only diligent investigations will determine any culpability in the tragedy.
“WorkSafe accepts that the tragic circumstances of the deaths of Alexander and Bridget Jones and Marie-Faith Fiawoo create a strong desire for immediate answers, but this desire cannot jeopardise a comprehensive and thorough investigation,” the agency said in a statement.
“WorkSafe is continuing to make inquiries with relevant authorities, technical experts and others, and to gather evidence and statements from witnesses about the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
